PEOPLE

Currently the design process is obsessed with visual aesthetics and representation. It neglects four of our five senses. As a result this current design process is not fit for purpose as it does not service all of the world's occupants. People are all different, with different needs and wants. We are big, small, old, young, seeing, visually impaired, hearing, deaf...the list goes on and on. Therefore it is necessary for our built environment to be universally accessible. This idea of accessibility cannot simply be solved with regulation, policy and standard widths. If we want to be fully inclusive in our design process we must fully consider all of life's aspects and senses.

As part of my Research I have began to try and create a more inclusive and considerate design process by trying to understand other people's lived experience. To date I have collaborated with the NCBI and it's service users through meetings and focus groups. I hope to integrate this process more into my research as I move from speculative experiments to real built liveable solutions
